| The BTR-80 is an eight-wheeled, all wheel drive armored personnel carrier used by Russian troops during the Afghan war. The Afghan guerillas tactics showed the vehicle to be vulnerable to mines and hand anti-tank weapons fire. Consequently, the AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher was added to the BTR turret to increase the firepower, while hull mounted water cans and spare wheels provided an additional ballistic protection. |
