| The first Soviet Armored Personnel Carrier BTR–152V was designed during 1946–1950 period. Serial production started in 1951 and during 7 November Parade at The Red Square in Moscow this new Soviet design was shown to public.
The BTR–152V was adopted as standard APC for Soviet Army in 1958.It was developed on the base of ZiL–157army truck with high cross-country capabilities. The all-welded from armor plates slope-sided hull with opened top accommodated crew and infantry. A total of 6 firing-ports were provided, three in each side of the hull. The main armament of APC consisted of single 7,62mm Gorjunov or Kalashnikov machine gun.
The wide range of special army vehicles were developed on BTR–152 base–command and staff mobile post, medical cars, self–propelled anti-aircraft gun, anti-tank rocket system.
Because of high exploitation qualities and robust construction BTR–152 and it’s variants were in service with Soviet and Warsaw Pact armies, armed forces of soviet orientation countries. The vehicles were widely used during Arab-Israeli wars, in Angola. |
