| Back when black-and-white photographs identified nary a difference between navy and black, Walt McCall identified this ALF 700 from Brook Park, Ohio, as having "the same type of black-painted upper cab found on Chicago rigs" in his book American Fire Engines Since 1900.
Over time, the colors will fade from any photograph, and if they're black and white to begin with, you better hae a pretty darn good memory. Chief Glen Kruger of the Brook Park Fire Department remembers the old ALF 700s when he first joined in the early 1960s, and remembers the rigs were painted navy and red. While hesitant to call Mr. McCall colorblind, the few photos we found lead us to believe Chief Kruger has the angle and, as a result, the peculiar navy-and-red color scheme adorns this 700 series- a rarity for ALFs purchased directly from the manurfacturer.
